Rivers and Forest

Alpheios is a river in Peloponnese, Greece. Its   scource is near Megalopolis in the prefecture Arcadia. It flows along Olympia and empties info the Ionian Sea in the prefecture of Ilia, near Pyrgos. As the longest river in the Peloponnese, at 111 km, the river flows in the prefectures of Arcadia and Ilia. The river begins near Davia in central Arcadia, then it flows between Leontari and Megalopolis and the municipal boundary of Falaisia and Megalopolis in a wooded valley and south of Karytaina and flows north of Andritsena and for about 15 to 20 km with prefectural boundary with Ilia and Arcadia.

It later flows with the provincial boundary of Olympia and Ilia for the rest of the length and the municipal boundary of Olympia and Alifeira to the south. It later flows to the municipal boundary of Skillounta to the south and along the Pyrgos and Volaka boundary and for a final 2 km, in to wetlands with bushes.

 Like most river-gods, he is a son of Oceanus and Tethys. He was also the grand father  of Diocles, and great grand father of a pair of soldiers, Creathon and Orsilochus, who were slain by Aeneas during the Trojan War....According to Pausanias, Alpheius was a passionate hander and fell in love with the nymph Arethusa, but she fled from himto the island of Ortygia near Syracuse and metamorphosed herself into a well, after which Alpheius became a river, which flowing from  Peloponnesus under the sea to Ortygia , there united its waters with  those of the well  Arethusa.

Erimanthos

The river begins in the southeastern part of the Mount Erymanthos range in a rocky landscape with several streams. The river flows into an area rich in pine trees and passes into several villages including Kertezi and Tripotamo. It has several tributaries with streams up to Lampeia, its length is as far as 15 km. There is a small gorge nearby and are partly forested. It enters a hilly setting rich in dense forest and for 35 km shares the prefectural boundary with Ilia. It flows underneath a one-lane bridge that is the GR-74 (Tripoli - Olympia - Pyrgos, the bridge is with arch support, the section will become the new highway, a new better two-lane bridge will be added north of the bank. The river empties into the Alfeios 5 km west of the Ladon confluence.

  
Foloi forest
Foloi forest: Foloi forest is the unique, level forest of Greece, extended in 218.000 acres, constituted by oak trees that cover an area of 42.000 acres, a wide green sea of oak trees. The forest of Foloi is protected by NATURA 2000 because of its importance, which is appreciated since the ancient times. The forest borders the river Erymanthos at the east, westwards the village Simopoylo and southernly the villages Nemoyta, Lala and Doyka.
