Katakolo lies at the beach of St. Andreas, next to Pirgos. Katakolo is a historic port of Peloponnisos, once the second biggest port after Killini. The topology of Katakolo coast with its two islets, of which the closest to the coast was actually a peninsula in ancient times, allowed the creation of a safe port.
In excavation works that have been conducted in the area, many shells and gems of ancient tombs have been found, in a time line by Neolithic Era to Roman Times. In this area Franks have also built the famous castle "Pontikokastro".
Katakolo is 27 km far from Ancient Olympia.
